Ethernet Private Line Service
Ethernet Private Line (EPL) provides a point-to-point connection between a pair of dedicated User-Network Interfaces (UNIs), with a high degree of transparency. is a data service defined by the Metro Ethernet Forum.
EPL is implemented as a point-to-point Ethernet Virtual Connection (EVC) which, unlike Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL), does not allow for Service Multiplexing, i.e., a dedicated UNI (physical interface) is used to accept all service frames and map them to a single EVC (a.k.a. All-to-one bundling). A point-to-point EPL configuration offers a committed information rate connection. It also offers control, allowing you to customize your connection and applications to suit your needs.
EPL services include:
- Ethernet over T1
- Ethernet over DS3
- 10 Mbps Ethernet (10BaseT) over SONET
- Full rate Fast Ethernet, Fast Ethernet over SONET and partial rate Fast Ethernet
- Gigabit Ethernet over SONET, including full rate (1000 Mbps) Gigabit Ethernet and five partial rates (50, 150, 300, 450, and 600 Mbps)
Benefits:
- Near perfect quality of service
- High resiliency
- Less expensive than traditional private line
- Deliver superior wavelength services
- LAN’s can create interconnections
- Extensions to SONET rings can be provided
Ethernet provides a strong, high-quality connection at a low cost. Through replacing Frame Relay and ATM services, you can reduce costs and simplify network administration over the MAN and WAN networks with Ethernet services.
